Meet Laura and Gerrad

Laura and Gerrad, one of our fabulous couples, are getting married this weekend! We first met Laura and Gerrad last winter, and have enjoyed working with them and getting to know them throughout the planning of their wedding. These adorable high school sweethearts have been an absolute pleasure to work with. They will be tying the knot, and getting their "happily ever after", this Saturday (11/12/11) at The Milestone in Denton.

They have an amazingly talented team of wedding pros; EE Photography, ELLE Films, Astounding Sounds DJ and Lighting, Serenata Strings, Lush Couture Floral, Cakes Amore, Wynnwood Catering, Ducky Bob's, TC Makeup, Socially Write, Lonestar Valet, and Choice Luxury Limo. We look forward to working with these fab vendors on making Laura and Gerrad's wedding an incredible one.

Laura is in school to become an RN and Gerrad is almost finished with firefighting/EMT school. They are such a sweet and serving couple, with big hearts! Laura and Gerrad are truly a beautiful couple inside and out, and we're honored to be a part of their very special weekend.

Angels for EOS Par-Tee for the Cure Part 1

Angels for EOS Par-Tee for a Cure and Golf Tournament

This past weekend we had the pleasure of being a part of the Angels for EOS Par-Tee for a Cure and Golf Tournament. Amy, one of the two mom's who founded Angels for EOS, found us in the CRAVE Dallas book and approached us in April to help her plan the Par-Tee at Marie Gabrielle. We were immediately touched by Amy and Cindy's stories, their passion for helping find a cure for their sons and for many other people with Eosinophilic disorders. We were on board from the moment we met with them, and were so excited to have fun planning this Par-Tee as well as help an amazing cause!

Amy came to us already knowing that she wanted the gala event to be "summer chic". Which we immediately loved! We decided on a clean, crisp, summery color palette of green and white with silver accents. We had a blast picking out linens and rentals (a fun funky lounge was a must), meeting with florist Deitra Butler of Lush Couture Floral and with lighting pros Jennifer Burns and Robert Winter from Beyond, tasting gelato and sorbet from Paciguo and popcorn flavors from Uptown Popcorn, to name just a few of the fun things we did planning this event. French Bohemian Wedding

We love this French bohemian wedding, and it’s beyond inspiring. The outdoor venue was perfect for catching the beauty of the sun for their pictures, and the stunning mature oak tree as their ceremony backdrop. Going along with the theme of their wedding, the bride chose natural décor for the centerpieces and carried a dried lavender bridal bouquet. This bohemian bride also wore a gorgeous floral headpiece that matched perfectly with her dress and her wedding style. To create a French bohemian wedding of your own, play off some of the ideas that this creative bride came up with. Some of our tips to create a French bohemian styled wedding such as this include; your hair style can go a long way for creating your wedding look by wearing it down and flowing to create the perfect natural look for your wedding day. Include decor with French writing, French style iron chairs, choose a wedding dress that is lacy, flowy, floral, has cinched areas, or all of the above. Modern Royal Inspiration

In honor of the new Duke and Duchess we’ve created a royal inspiration board to help you have a royally inspired wedding of your very own. William and Kate’s wedding was extremely formal so we’ve created a board that is more modern and a bit less formal, but still classy. Inexpensive touches like a feathery hair piece for your bridesmaids or wearing knit gloves are things that will do wonders in creating that royal and elegant feel for your wedding. A little more expensive but definitely worth it would be using a more formal type of chair for the reception. We love the Victorian style chairs pictured below. Used at the dinner tables rather than just chair treatments, it’s an excellent way to make your wedding more upscale. William and Kate’s wedding ceremony within Westminster Abbey incorporated a lot of red, though we’ve chosen to do our royal wedding board with a simple grey, white, and an ashy blue. We think these toned down colors definitely create sophistication and a touch of formality, and that’s what a royally inspired wedding is all about.

Royal Wedding Details

After much anticipation Friday, the day of the royal wedding finally arrived! We were anxious to get a glimpse of Kate and her dress. Oh and William too! Riding in the Queen's classic 1977 Rolls-Royce Phantom Kate and her father Michael arrived at the church where she met up with her sister and maid of honor Pippa Middleton. Through the un-tinted windows of her car you could see the long-sleeved lace and ivory satin design by Sarah Burton which was much reminiscent of Grace Kelly. Prince William stood at the alter waiting for his bride wearing the full military uniform of an Irish Guards officer. Speaking of fashion, the UK really knows how to wear their hats, the Kentucky Derby woman have nothing on these royal fashionistas.

Unlike traditional weddings in the United States where the maid of honor and others in the bridal party go down the aisle before the bride in the processional, at the royal wedding they followed Kate down the aisle. As Kate walked the long red aisle runner she was in among eight twenty foot tall trees that she chose to be put inside Westminster Abbey creating a delicate eco-friendly vibe. She then planned to have the trees plant after the wedding, if nothing else it will be a reminder their love is always growing.

After the ceremony, just like his parents did at their wedding, William and Kate left in a horse drawn carriage to have their first public kiss as man and wife at Buckingham Palace. We got not one but two from the royal couple who were surrounded with what looked like millions of cheering people. We were happy to see the couple have a little fun and leave the Palace in an Aston Martin adorned with balloons and even a “just wed” license plate. Guests say William and his best man, brother Harry, gave entertaining and lighthearted speeches at the reception where they spent the rest of the night. Though we don’t know where they will be honeymooning at, it’s sure to be just as beautiful and extravagant as their wedding.

A Royal Occasion

It’s almost here, only a few days left until the royal wedding. After years of being together Kate Middleton will be officially joining the royal family when she and Prince William tie the knot on Friday April 29, 2011. To celebrate this day in history and the extravagant wedding, we’ve compiled a few pictures and interesting facts about Will and Kate’s upcoming nuptials. Notice how similar Prince William and Kate’s engagement picture is to his parents.

- Kate is only 29 years old but is still the oldest woman to ever be married into the royal family. Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana was just over 20 when she married his father back in the early 80s.

- Close to 4000 applications for street party licenses have been submitted from the public for them to celebrate the joyous occasion in their own way.

- It seems they are being smart and taking steps to make their marriage last, like waiting a little longer to get married. As well as they are allegedly signing a pre-nup.

- Rather than getting gifts they have chosen to ask guests to donate to one, or some, of the 26 chosen charities.

- Prince William will not wear a ring after their upcoming marriage, but Kate will wear rather a gold ring passed down to William from the Queen.

- Guests who have participated in the military will be asked to wear their dress uniform, while woman can wear elegant afternoon dresses with or without a smart coat and hat.

- William and Kate's wedding reception will have 600 chosen guests who will enjoy a lunchtime buffet, where as his parents Charles and Diana who celebrated with only 120 guests.

Inspiration for a Coral Wedding

When we think of coral summer is the first thing that pops into our heads. It’s a fabulous color to keep in mind for your summer wedding. Coral is a radiant mixture of red, orange, and pink. It is nice and bright, which is great for this time of year. The color coral brings warmth and femininity, yet it is still a color that men will feel comfortable with and happy to wear. Coral works great when paired with white for a clean crisp look. Or mix coral with colors such as cream, navy, ash, or gold. The coral cake pictured below is beautiful, we like how it’s a little different than the typical traditional cake. The coral and white ring pillow is a beautiful way to tie the color theme together. The photo of the bridesmaids wearing different coral dresses is creative, and creates a stunning look. We love how the bridesmaids wore different dresses yet still matched brilliantly. Shabby Chic Wedding

What exactly does shabby chic mean? Well it looks a little like a few themes all rolled into one. Vintage, classic, romantic, and glam describe this wonderful style that you might be looking to use for your wedding décor. Pastel pink in any deviation will be a staple in your shabby chic wedding, along with other pastel colors of your choice. White, cream, green, and antique turquoise are great complementary colors for a shabby chic wedding. Three things to make sure to add in your decor are floral prints, ruffles, and creative lighting. Like in the beautiful hand painted table number frame we picked, floral print was used as the background for the number. You could also use floral patterns in your linens, cake, flower girl dresses, or wedding invitations. Ruffles would look great on your wedding or bridesmaid dresses, sweetheart or cake table linens, or on your shoes. Lastly creative lighting is a great way to generate a glam feel for your wedding. Using chandeliers or metal lanterns outside are stunning and also make your shabby chic wedding very intimate.

We have complied our ten favorite choices for the best first dance songs, all the way from Train to Elvis. When you first hear lace and pearls your grandmother’s closet might be the first think that pops in your head, but think again. Incorporating lace or pearls into your wedding will create a romantic and innocent elegance that will complement any bride. Pearls can be used in a variety of ways for example jewelry for your bridal party, on your cake, on your garter, or in the groomsmen’s corsages. Pearls signify simple sophistication, so wearing pearl studs or a simple pearl necklace can be stunning on your wedding day.

Lace, the perfect complement to pearls is exquisite when added to any area of your wedding. How much lace you would like within your wedding is up to you, but it can be used to decorate just about anything because it is so subtle. Great areas to add lace to in your wedding are your bouquet, invitations, shoes, hair pieces, and attire. Because lace is so timeless, many brides use some of the fabric that was from their mothers or grandmothers dresses for part of their decor. Top Tips for a Summer Wedding

Summer is just around the corner! By taking the right steps, the blistering hot weather does not need to get in your way of having a beautiful summer wedding. We just love these peachy colored summer photos. Summertime weddings in Texas can be hard to perfect so we have some tips to cool down your special day, and make your wedding run a bit smoother.

1. The wedding cake

Make sure that if your cake is going to be exposed to the heat and the sun’s rays, that it is covered in fondant rather than butter cream. This precaution will help ensure that your cake does not end up dripping down the table before you and your husband even have a chance to feed it to each other. Using your ceremony canopy to show case your cake during the reception is another great way to limit the sun’s rays from shinning on your cake. Depending on where you live, you might want to fashion a tulle net to cover your cake to avoid bugs or falling leaves and flowers.

2. Hydration

You will want to make your guests as comfortable as possible. Keeping plenty of beverages on hand will help keep guests from getting too hot or dehydrated. Along with fun summer mixed drinks also consider having lots of non-alcoholic alternatives. This will allow for many choices for the younger guests and for those who have gotten even more dehydrated after having their share of alcoholic drinks. We love the idea of passing around iced tea and water as your guests are seated for your ceremony. Don’t forget the ice!

3. Flowers

Flowers are known to wilt with the heat of the summer and need careful attention to keep them at their best. To ensure flowers are as beautiful as when they came from the florist consider using flowers that have a stronger stems as they will be able to withstand more heat and still keep their shape. Flowers such as cala lilies, mums, alstromeria, or sunflowers are great to use for an outdoor summer wedding because of their beauty and durability. Regardless of the flower type it’s always a good idea to keep them in cold water and out of the sun as long as possible. Keeping bouquets and centerpieces in a fridge until ready for use will also help to preserve them.

4. Favors

Favors are a fun way to let your guests feel included and show them how much you really appreciate that they are sharing your special day with you. During your summer wedding choosing favors that will help your guests cool off will definitely be appreciated. Some examples of summer favors for an outdoor wedding could include sun umbrellas, personalized paper fans, water bottles, battery operated fans, sunglasses, or flip flops.

In addition to these top 4 tips other things to think about include; using lighter colors to make things nice and bright, and also to help keep cool. If you have a covered reception area make sure that there is still a nice breeze coming through. Choose chairs that are not metal as they will heat up in the sun, or choose seat cushions to keep your guests cool and comfortable throughout the reception. Make the reception attire more casual rather than formal, and provide freshening up kits in the restrooms.

Most importantly, keep in mind that you want to be able to have a good time with your guests and the more comfortable you are the more enjoyable and memorable your wedding will be. How will you be keeping cool at your summer wedding?

A Southern Wedding

Creating a romantic sweetheart table

Oh the sweetheart table, it’s the place you and your spouse will enjoy your first meal as husband and wife and a very special and romantic start to your lives, so get ready for some glass clinking. It’s a little different in that it is a more intimate setting because it’s just you and your husband rather than the whole bridal party. Though like any other part of your wedding, the sweetheart table deserves much attention. It’s very important because it’s where you will be seated for part of the night while enjoying great food and entertainment, so decorations are a must. The main thing to remember when choosing how to decorate your sweetheart table is that you want it to stand out from all other tables in the room. No one should forget that you two are the VIPs for the day.

So first, the location is important as you want to be able to see all your guests and for them to see you, so front and center facing all your loved ones is best. Second, to make your table stand out use things like a different colored table cloth, a slightly different or more extravagant arrangement, or a beautiful backdrop such as billowy linens or scenery to name a few. Also it is becoming popular to add a banner across the table front, names or initials on the back of chairs, or other ways to personalize your table. If you love bridal accessories as much as we do, you will absolutely love these statement shoes. Perfect for your big day! Whether you want your shoes to be pumps, peep toes, high heels, or flats; statement shoes on your wedding day are a great way to be chic and show off your style.

If you are more of a traditional bride something classy with a small bow would be the perfect complement to your style. If you are more on the adventurous side a bolder shoe with rhinestones and pearls might be perfect for you. The shoes you pick can add a hint of elegance and glamour to your walk down the aisle.

When going for a bold statement with a color, it is a good idea though to choose a shoe that still matches with your theme and colors. You want a shoe that is a little out there, but not out of nowhere.

Whether sassy Jimmy Choo’s or Manolo Blahnik’s that could make you feel like you’re coming right off the set of Sex and the City, or an adorable Kate Spade, Nina, or Stuart Weitzman, the options are endless.

In the end whether you decide to wear a shoe that is traditional white or a vibrant color, make sure it is comfortable enough to wear for a long period of time and that it complements your personality and your dress.

2011 is well under way and we're so excited about the fabulous trends we're sure to see a lot of in weddings and events this year! Some of these trends started last year and will continue to be HUGE this year, and others are new to 2011. Here are 14 noteworthy trends we're loving for this year!

1. With a new year means a new color of the year. And this year's color honeysuckle conjures up feels of rejuvenation, youth, and happiness. It is beautiful paired with grey, taupe, champagne, or even a bright like yellow.

2. Vintage touches. Borrow a grandmother's broach or piece of jewelry for your hair, on a chair treatment, or even on your cake. Bonus is that it doubles as your something old.

2011 is here, and we're so excited for all of the fabulous weddings and events coming up this year! We're also excited to work with some fresh new color combinations this year.

Pantone, the leading authority on color standards for the design industry, announced their top ten color picks for 2011. The top ten hot colors for this year, according to Pantone, are:

Use these colors to get inspiration for picking your wedding or event colors.

Honeysuckle: The "it" color for spring 2011 according to Pantone. It is a rosy magenta color that is vibrant and energizing. Honeysuckle is a flattering hue for bridesmaid dresses and accessories.

Coral Rose: Sophisticated and spicy. Coral Rose is a warm orange hue that will be great for fall weddings and events.

Peapod: A fresh yellow-green color that signifies new beginnings will bring an organic element to your wedding or event.

Beeswax: A honey yellow that gets us excited for spring!

A timeline!

As you prepare for your big day, you will want to confirm of all your vendors and final details (or have your wedding planner do this for you). You will also want to create a complete wedding day timeline; which will outline in detail the events of your wedding day from beginning to end. Such as when you will have your makeup done, when vendors will arrive and setup, when photos will take place, when you will have your first dance, when toasts will happen, when you will cut your cake, etc....down to when you have your send off and the vendors strike.

The timeline will keep everyone involved in your wedding on track, it will help all of the moving parts stay organized and aware of the days' events. It will also tell those involved in your wedding (your bridal party and family) where to be, when to be there, and how to be there (for example- all groomsmen at the venue at 4pm, dressed and ready for pictures). Your timeline is essential for a smooth wedding day.

Wedding Vows!

Writing your own vows is a popular alternative to reciting the traditional vows, and helps create a personal touch. If you choose to write and say your own vows make sure you and your hubby-to-be are on the same page regarding saying your own vows. Take the time to write your vows in advance and to practice saying them out loud, you don't want wedding jitters or speaking in front of a crowd to leave you tongue-tied. You can take inspiration from poetry, songs, or other sources.

Consider taking a piece of prose that expresses the love you share with your fiance, or a reading from a religious text, that can add special meaning to your ceremony. These are especially moving when sung or read by a family member or friend. You can structure it into your ceremony in a way that is beautiful to you and your hubbs-to-be.

Patience and Clarity!

Through all of the planning and all of the engagement madness, take a moment every so often and remember why you are doing all of this wedding planning in the first place...love.

While the pretty flowers and yummy cake and fun parties are great, planning a wedding can be stressful and I bet there will be moments when you and your hubby-to-be won't see eye to eye over the details. That is why it is so important to take a step back from the wedding plans and to refocus your energy on yourselves and on your love for one and other.

During the course of your engagement schedule in some "me time". Get a spa treatment, workout, take a yoga class, meet a friend for coffee, read a book. Take time away from planning your special day to help rejuvenate and gain clarity.

When your love and you aren't seeing eye to eye, take a "time out" from the wedding planning, and do a non-wedding planning activity together. Go for a walk, watch a movie, meet friends for a drink, play a game, exercise. Again, anything to reinvigorate yourselves and to gain some clarity.

Doing these small, and fun, things will help you stay focused on your love and why you are getting married in the first place. It will also help you to be patient with your man and with everyone around you. Because let's face it planning a wedding can be tough, and it can be stressful.

So remember, patience and clarity will help you thru this crazy exciting journey that we call engagement (and planning a wedding).

Flowers, linens, cake, and music...oh my!

You have hired a wedding planner, made your budget and started a checklist, found your wedding dress, you have booked your venue (and set your wedding date), hired someone to capture your special day, you have selected and asked your bridal party to stand up for you, and you have started your registry. You have been busy little bride-to-be you! But your wedding planning work is not quite done yet. Now comes the fun...creating the look, feel, and mood (a la ambiance) you want for your wedding. It is now time to book your other major vendors; florist, rentals, bakery, and a band or DJ.

Here are few questions to ask yourself to help define the ambiance you desire:

1. Do you prefer formal or informal?
2. Do you like large centerpieces or smaller ones?
3. Do you like bold colors or more subdued ones?
4. When you see yourself walking down the aisle; are you walking to the sounds of a string quartet, a piano or organ, a jazz combo, or songs you've given to a DJ or that are on your Ipod?
5. For the reception do you want a master of ceremonies (MC) to announce throughout the reception or do you want a more mellow mood?
6. Do you want to dance at your wedding?
7. What other kinds of entertainment would you like? Photo-booth, flip book, lounge area, candy or dessert bar, make your own sundae station, etc... The possibilities are endless!
8. Do you like cake, cupcakes, or do you and your hubby-to-be have another favorite dessert you would rather serve?
9. Are you having a sit down dinner, buffet, or a cocktail reception?
10. Does your venue provide chairs and linens? Do you like the ones they provide? Would you prefer a chair cover in your color of choice? Do you like the clean look of chivari chairs? Or the sleek look of lucite chairs?
11. Do you have any favorite colors? Are you thinking of a theme?
12. What are your favorite flowers?
13. Do you like the traditional hand-tied bouquet or do you prefer a cascade style bouquet?
14. Do you want a simple 3 tier cake? Or a more grand 7 tier cake?
15. Does your venue require a lot of decor? Or is it ornate and only need a small touch?

Asking yourself these questions will help you visualize the wedding you want. Then, it's time to hire the professionals. Just like when you hired your photographer; ask your wedding planner for recommendations (you can ask us for our recommendations), or ask your friends and family members who they used. You will want to make sure that your vendors are reputable professionals.

A wedding registry!

The months leading up to your wedding is that fun time when you can walk into stores and indulge your shopping spree whims without worrying about your bank account (or your wedding budget). But more than just the ultimate shopping spree and a fun outing with your hubby-to-be, setting up a wedding registry is a great way to let your guests know which items you want to start your new life together. Your wedding registry will also be a great aid in keeping track of who bought what (in case cards go missing from gifts). Having a wedding registry will reduce your likely hood of receiving duplicate gifts.

While china, flatware, glassware, cookware, table linens, bed linens, and bath linens are traditional items to register for it is absolutely acceptable to add other non-traditional items as well like luggage, outdoor grills, and even sporting equipment. These days couples are even registering for their honeymoon.

Some of your friends and relatives might want to get you gifts as soon they hear about your engagement so it is best to begin your registry early on. Even if you start with just a few items, you can always add on. You will want to register at least a month before your engagement party and/or first shower.

Stick to two to four stores that you love. Choose at least two to three that are large department stores or chain stores (i.e- Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate and Barrel, William Sonoma).

When it comes to letting your guests know where you are registered, proper etiquette dictates that you should never include registry information on your wedding invitation or in your wedding invitation suite. Rather rely on family members and your bridal party to spread the word. It is completely acceptable to put your registry information on your wedding website, which we highly recommend.

On the Sixth Day of Christmas

On the sixth day of Christmas my wedding planner gave to me...

The bridal party!

You've hired a wedding planner, came up with a budget and put together a checklist, found that perfect dress, booked the venue(s), and hired someone to capture the special day. Now it is time to ask your attendants to stand up for you, and delegate their duties.

When choosing who would like next to you think of your very closest friends and family. And don't forget each other's siblings (i.e- his sister, if the two of you are close). Consider the size of your wedding, if you are anticipating around 100 guests than 4 attendants on each side is ideal (4 bridesmaids and 4 groomsmen). If you are having a larger wedding, let's say 300-400 guests, than you can "get away with" having a much larger bridal party (such as 8-12 attendants on each side).

Yes, anything goes these days when it comes to weddings, but it can be nice to follow traditions. Here is a brief run down of who should do what, according to traditions. You can most certainly put your own spin on the traditional roles, just be sure to let attendants know what you would like them to do and make sure that they can follow through.

Maid of Honor- Your maid of honor will organize and host the bridal shower. She will sign the marriage license as a witness. You may want to have her help you with your attire, before and after the ceremony...holding your train while you walk, bustling your train after the ceremony, helping you with your veil, etc... During the reception you can have your maid of honor look after your purse and personal items.

Bridesmaids- Trustworthy friends who are your support system. As well as the support team for your maid of honor. Your bridesmaids will be there to help you with pre-wedding tasks when you need them. Bridesmaids are often expected to hit the dance floor and help get the party started.

Flower Girl- A little lady (typically age 2-8) who walks down right before the bride. Either with the ring bearer or right after he walks down. Have her scatter flower petals from a basket, or she can carry a pomander.

Best Man- Aside from planning and organizing the bachelor party, your best man will also sign the marriage license as a witness. He can help your hubby-to-be with his attire before and after the ceremony. Your best man will carry the bride's ring. He should make the first toast, after your parents.

Groomsmen- Trustworthy friends who will help your hubby-to-be with preparing for the big day. Aside from helping plan and pay for the bachelor party; they may decorate your getaway car, dance with dateless ladies, and act as ushers if you are not having separate ushers.

Ushers- Ushers ensure that guests are seated before the ceremony. Your ushers will escort guests, and any family members who are not in the processional, to their seats. You can also have your ushers hand out your ceremony programs to guests as they arrive.

Ring Bearer- A young boy (age 4-8 recommended), who will walk down the aisle after the bridesmaids and groomsmen and just before you and your dad. He can either walk with the flower girl or right before her. Ring bearers carry a pillow with rings tied to it (we recommend fake ones so that your rings do not get lost).

Someone to capture the day!

After all of the thought, planning, and hard work that you have put into your special day, you will want someone to photograph every moment. You will want to look back and reminisce on all of the love and fun you shared with your family and friends. Here are just a few of our tips on finding someone to capture your day.

1. Make sure you hire a professional. Someone who comes highly recommended by your wedding planner (you can ask us for our recommendations), or ask your close friends and family who they used. While there are a lot of photographers out there some are more experienced than others. If you want quality images that you will be proud to show off, and images that truly capture the raw emotion and beauty of your wedding than you will no doubt want to hire an experienced professional wedding photographer.

2. Be sure that the photographer you hire specializes in wedding photography. And you will want to look for someone whose style of photography matches the look and feel of how you want your photos and wedding album to turn out. Be sure to ask if you can see their portfolio before hiring them. The key is to ask to see one whole album of a wedding they've done and also sort through an additional album with several different weddings in it to get a good feel for the photographer's style.

3. Tell your photographer what it is you want. Be very specific and detailed about the photos you do not want your photographer to miss. Do you prefer black and white, color, or both? Formal poses, candids, or a combination? Be sure to vocalize these wants with your photographer. We highly suggest you create a "must shoot list" for your photographer to reference on your wedding day. Some poses you might want to include; mother of bride with bride, groom with bridesmaids, bride and groom with ring bearer and flower girl, groom with brides parents, etc... It may seem obvious but during the photos some of the most important "poses" may get missed unless your photographer knows exactly what you want and has a list to refer back to.

4. Consider doing a first look. A first look is when you and your hubby-to-be see each other for the first time prior to walking down the aisle and have a special private moment together . A first look is a beautiful moment, and allows your photographer more one-on-one time with you and your groom for photos. A first look also means you will have less post-ceremony photos to do and can spend more time with your guests.

A venue!

Looking for that perfect venue (or venues) to exchange your vows, become Mr. & Mrs., and party the night away is an exciting process and can be exhausting all at the same time. You will want to look for charm, personality, and roominess. Here are our top 5 things to consider while out on venue tours.

1. Ample Space - Make sure the room is large enough to accommodate the number of people on your guest list. The space make look roomy when it's empty, but keep in mind that you will need enough room for tables, chairs, buffet, the band or DJ, the dance floor, possibly a lounge area or a photo-booth...and each of this things can take up a lot of space. The best way to assess the size of a site is to ask to see the venue when it is being set up for another wedding.

2. Privacy - Privacy varies widely from place to place. If you are getting married in a park, on a golf course, or in a botanical garden be prepared for some on-lookers and possibly even a few smiles, waves, and well wishes from passer-byers. If this bothers you, consider a lawn at a private estate. Be sure to ask the banquet hall or hotel if they book more than one wedding a night and if they have another wedding booked for your desired wedding date. If it will bother you to hear the noise of another party or for another bride to share your venue, than consider trying to book your wedding on a date when there won't be another one next door.

3. Color - If you have your heart set on a particular color palette or theme make sure the colors of the carpet, walls, curtains, and chairs do not clash. If you have your heart set on a spring pastel palette of rose pink, ivory, and sage green then that brown carpet just might wreck the effect. The venue doesn't have to match exactly, but it shouldn't clash with your mood or theme either.

4. Outlets - Make sure to take a good look around the room to see if it has a lot of outlets. Especially if your venue is not a regular host to weddings. The main user of the outlets will be the entertainment and lighting, so take note of where the outlets are located. And be sure to ask your entertainment vendors (i.e - band/DJ, lighting, photo-booth, etc...) how many outlets they will need. Be sure they are dedicated outlets so that they don't blow a fuse.

5. Parking - You will want to make sure that the venue has a well light parking lot or garage nearby, or enough space on the street for parking. If parking is sparse at the venue than consider a shuttle bus to transport guests from a better parking location to the venue.

A Wedding Dress!

You have found “the one”, that special man in your life who you are embarking on this amazing journey with. And you’ve got that beautiful bling on your finger. Now....it is time for you to find “ the one”, that perfect wedding dress! For many it is the most anticipated and exciting part of the wedding planning process, for others it is the most dreaded part of planning their wedding. Where-ever you fall in the desire to find your dress, we are here to help with a few simple tips on finding the dress for you.

Go in with an open mind. Yes you probably have an idea of what you do and don’t like; lace, no lace, strapless, straps, long, short, beaded, no beading, etc... But be open minded, try on several different styles and looks...you just never know what will be the most flattering on you, and what you will end up falling in love with.
Bring just one or two close friends and/or your mom along with you. We do not suggest bringing your entire bridal party along for the ride when you are dress shopping. You know the saying “too many cooks in the kitchen”, well if you bring any more than one or two people with you to dress shop than you are bound to have way more opinions (and differing opinions) than you really want. Also, most of the wedding dress shops are on the smaller size and showing up with an entourage can cause for a cramped experience.
Just like yesterday when we recommended you create a budget, we recommend you have a set budget in mind before you step out to go dress shopping. It is completely okay to have a range, but stay within that range and do not break your budget on your dress. In fact, we highly suggest you do not try on any dresses are that over your budget.
Begin thinking about the style, look, and feel that you want for your wedding. Your wedding dress should echo this style. If you want a modern wedding you probably won’t want to wear a very traditional dress and vice versa.
Have fun! Even if the thought of trying on dresses makes you cringe, have fun with it. This is (hopefully) going to be the one and only time you are a bride....embrace it and have fun!

A budget and a checklist!

It may sound like school or work here (eeeks!). But planning a wedding involves MANY tasks. And in our opinion the only way to accomplish these tasks is to have a clearly defined budget and to be organized (call it the planner in us!). The cost of a wedding can add up very quickly. And while your wedding day should be everything you've always dreamt it would be (and more), it should not leave you with empty pockets and debt. There are ways to cut costs without looking like you've cut corners. We suggest every couple prioritizes and sets a budget very early on in the planning process. Once you've set your budget, it's time to get going with those wedding tasks. Being organized with a checklist will help you check those items off of your to-do list.

This is probably uncharted waters for you, as we assume for most of you this is your first time planning a wedding ;-) Get the most out of your wedding planners' wealth of knowledge by hiring him/her early on in the planning process. He/she will ease the stress that comes along with planning a wedding...yes there are stressful moments (we will touch on that later this week). We had such a blast being a part of Nikki and Tommy's beautiful wedding at the Filter Building. Nikki who is the owner and creative guru behind Doodle Dog Advertising was the ultimate do it yourself bride. We love how she took her creative savvy and brought it to her wedding decor. She literally thought of it all! From tags, to favor boxes, to the ceremony programs, to signs, and the dessert bar, etc... their wedding was exceptionally well "branded". I also loved how Nikki and Tommy's family and friends got involved and helped out on their wedding day, you could really tell how loved this couple is! I'm so excited about our vendor exposé this month! I love Justin Cash and his music. In fact I have a personal tie to Justin and his wonderful band...they drove all the way from Dallas,Texas to Scottsdale,Arizona to be a part of mine and my husband's wedding when we got married. Justin Cash's music is perfect for a rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony, reception, or just about any celebration where music is needed.

Deanie Michelle Events: Tell us your story. How did you get started in the music biz?

Justin Cash: It's a great story, I have been truly blessed. My dad used to take me down to a local store called "Acoustic Music Revival" when we lived in Denver, CO. Imagine an old world instrument shop like you might find in Italy, complete with beret-wearing seasoned folk musicians and the smell of old cedar, and you will be there. It was there that I learned to play and sing, and there that I met my wife!

Deanie Michelle Events: I can picture it now! Fabulous story, and I love that you met your wife there too. Describe your style/sound?

Justin Cash: Somewhere between James Taylor and Eric Clapton. Music that makes everyone feel good, that's my goal.

Deanie Michelle Events: You write a lot of your own music. Where does your inspiration come from?

Justin Cash: My wife and children mostly, things they say and do, and all of the beautiful things in life that surround us every day. Often inspiration will strike at the most unexpected moment.

One day I was explaining to my son James that the Dove is a symbol of peace. He said thoughtfully, "Dad, I wish I had a dove." That phrase itself imprinted on my brain, and later that day, the chorus of the song "Dove" from my new album Beautiful World, practically wrote itself.

Deanie Michelle Events: Love it! And congratulations on your newest addition to your family! I'm sure that he too will be the inspiration for much of your future songs. Who are your clients?

Justin Cash: Most of my clients are brides that are looking for a solo acoustic guitar to perform for their ceremony and then later during the dinner add some vocals. Rehearsal dinners are another common event that often needs my kind of music to make the environment cool, classy, intimate, and romantic. I also perform at a lot of wedding receptions with the full band , when people want to have some groovy party music.

Deanie Michelle Events: Lots of options for brides to enjoy your sound, which is terrific! Clients can choose between solo guitar with or without vocals, duo, trio, or quartet...which do you recommend for weddings?

Justin Cash: A great combination that takes care of all of the music in one shot is: solo acoustic guitar for the ceremony, solo guitar and vocals for dinner, and then four to five piece band for the reception. That way, the bride only has to deal with ONE guy, who can take care of all of their music needs for the entire wedding.

Deanie Michelle Events: I love that! I strongly encourage couples to limit the number of vendors they have, so that is right up our ally. What is your favorite part of performing for weddings?

Justin Cash: It's all great! Seriously, I love being a part of the ceremony where you get to witness two people who truly are in love make a wonderful commitment to each other. There is always a very special feeling in the room that reminds you of all of the good things in life that last: love, family, and close friends. It's a beautiful moment, and I am touched every time I'm at a ceremony. It reminds me how lucky I am to have found my wonderful wife, Annie.

The reception is always a blast, as the bandleader and emcee, you get to be the guy in charge of helping everyone simply have a great time and enjoy themselves. I really love watching the parents or grandparents who haven't danced in YEARS get out on the dance floor and smile as they lose self-consciousness and allow themselves to just have fun. Parents who are falling in love again during a slow dance is another one I love see, like your parents dancing to "Only the Beginning", Deanie. They meant that. I love my job, what could be a better work place environment?

Deanie Michelle Events: I couldn't agree more Justin! What is your fondest memory of music?

Justin Cash: A family road trip through New York State when I was ten years old. My father played the Beatles the entire time. It's the same thing as we were talking about before - good music and family at the same time, nothing better.

Deanie Michelle Events: What is on your ipod?

Justin Cash: Besides "Break music-chill" and "Break music-uptempo" - Ha Ha - I love anything with acoustic guitar and good songs. Lately a lot of audio books as well, I love motivational and classic literature.

Deanie Michelle Events: Tells us about one of your favorite moments performing?

Justin Cash: One time I was playing in a restaurant and had brought my 6-year-old son with me. I overheard him saying to a couple sitting near him: "My dad's the best guitar player in the world".

Deanie Michelle Events: Too cute! That just brought a huge smile to my face. Where do you see Justin Cash and/or Justin Cash Music in 5 years?

Justin Cash: I just released an album of my own songs and would like to be performing more concerts and reaching more people worldwide. There is a power in music to uplift, to edify, and to inspire. That's my job here on earth.

I'll always be performing weddings though. Not only do I truly enjoy it, I feel useful in the world, since I am able to use my talents to bless the lives of others and deliver something truly special to them.
